Goddess Parvati created Ganesha for protection and wanted him to safeguard his room while she was bathing. When Shiva was trying to made his way into the Parvati’s room, Ganesha denied him entry. By chopping off his head, Shiva has actually cut off the human mind which is thinking about physical realms and fulfilling expectations.
