Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima, one of the most important festivals known for showing gratitude to your Guru is celebrated on Purnima tithi of Ashada month.
The Sanskrit word Guru is derived from Gu and Ru - where Gu means ignorance/darkness and Ru refers to elimination/removal.Thus,a guru is prime guiding force which shows the path from darkness to light.
We all might be knowing the history behind Guru Purnima that it is celebrated to mark the birth aniversary of Ved Vyasa, the author of the great Indian epic, Mahabharata.Sage Veda Vyasa was the son of Satyavati and Sage Parashar. He was the one who classified vedas into 4 groups.
Astrological reference of this day:
Guru is referred to Jupiter in vedic astrology and it is currently retrograde in 11th house of fulfillment of desires. When we have blessings of Guru(Jupiter) in our life, our fortunes (9th ) and spirtual life (12th house) blossoms. Jupiter is the karaka for wisdom, intelligence, finances and its positive aspect can work wonders in major areas of life. All the wordly gurus whether they teach in a college or they guide people spirtually and in religious matters are symbolisation of Jupiter only. By honouring our Gurus on this day,we actually request God to give us boon of wisdom, knowledge, higher knowledge and prosperity.Guru is also medium from where God can send his divine grace and show the path.
Today, when we bow down to all our gurus around,we are giving more energy to our 9th and 12th house which will decrease obstructions in our path and make our life journey smooth like never before!
Also,I am little worried about dimnishing value of guru -shishya relationship.India should bring back concept of Gurukuls where educations about values and principles of life is also given apart from other subjects. Otherwise,it will be too late and our society will become an empty vessel who only makes much noice !
