Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together. – Mark Twain

Kashi, modern day #Varanasi is located at the banks of River Ganga in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Its name is also mentioned in Rigved making it known as city of lights. From ages, it has been the center place of the learning. The world-famous Nalanda university was also located in the city of Kashi only.

Lord Buddha gave his first sermon near this city. #Kashi is believed to be winter abode of Shiv Shankar. It is believed that after getting married, he spent his winters in holy city of Kashi. Therefore, Kashi is believed to be abode of Shiv ji where actual knowledge of Shiv resides in abundance. Kashi is believed to have 72000 shrines which is equal to 72000 nadis in human body.

Let me enlighten you with spiritual relevance of Kashi:

At a physical level, Kashi is seen as a city between Varana and Asi rivers. But when we compare it with the significations of human body, kasha is the spot between the eye brows i.e. agnya chakra where the left Nadi called as Varana and right Nadi called Asi coverge. From ages it is believed that when final breath, Prana leaves the body and if the mind is at rest & focused on this spot, then a person get free from the cycles of life and birth.

Kashi is also known as Maha-samana, the great cremation ground and core is believed to be Manikarnika-where at least one corpse is always burning. In whole world, death is a mourning but it is celebration in Kashi as one gets salvation here. Agnya chakra is also referred as Shiva’s third eye. It is the seat of shiva-shakti, therefore most powerful.
