Purushottam Maas 2020
‘Pramadi’, the Vikram Samvat 2077, has started from25th March with Mercury as its king and Moon as its minister. The Vikrant Samvat is based on the calculation of Sun and Moon month and Purushottam Maas is the extra month in the Moon month that comes after every 32 months, 16 days and 8 hours. It is done to balance the difference between Sun and Moon years as Sun year is of 365 days and 6 hours whereas Moon year is of 354 days. This difference of 11 days accumulates to form one month within three years.
Month to Purify Oneself
The Purushottam Maas is dedicated to Lord Vishnu with the belief that all the worship done during this month will grant 10 times more blessings. The Vishnu Mantra, if recited during this month then it is believed to get the blessing from Lord Vishnu himself along with mitigation of their sins and fulfilment of all their desires.
The Hindu Holy scripture mentions that our physical form is attributed to 5 elements Water, Fire, Earth, Air, and Space and when meditation, yoga, worship and other religious acts are done during this month then it balances these elements so that one moves towards religiousness and prosperity in his life. It is the month to purify oneself from inside as well as outside.
The rare combination
This year the Purushottam or Adhik Maas will start from 18th September and ends on 16th October and from 17th October Shardiya Navratri will start. The period marks a rare condition of two Ashwin Maah, the situation that will occur again after the gap of 19 years. This Vikram Samvat also coincides with Georgian calender’s leap year, the combination that occurred after 160 years.
Donation of any of these things, as per the individual capacity, generates more divinity among people.
Krishna Paksha: A Diya with ghee, a gold or copper vessel, raw chickpea, jaggery, pulses, red sandalwood powder, camphor, pearl, conch, diamond or emerald.
Shukla Paksha: Malpua, kheer, curd, cotton, woollen or silk clothes, ghee, sesame, rice, wheat, milk, raw materials for khichadi, or a copper vessel.
It is not advisable to start any auspicious work during this period.
