In Hinduism Shankha is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as he blows it many a time during his avatars is also said that Shankha is one of the four ‘Aayudh’ weapons of Lord Vishnu along with Chakra, Gadaa and Lotus. The shankha held by Lord Vishnu is called Shankh Janya. Shankha is a believed to give fame and prosperity in life. The daily blowing of Shankha is said to save a person from heart disease.

According to our ancient scriptures, shankha releases strong positive vibrations which eliminates the elements of Raja and Tamas from the environment. Also, it is believed that blowing of shankha makes the atmosphere holy and conducive for initiating spiritual practices of the individual. Thus, it becomes easy for the person to imbibe good vibes and sattvic particles in the environment. The shankha is used for two major purposes-one for blowing before the start of ritual and other for Puja ritual itself. These two shankhs should be kept separately and in no situation, they should be used interchangeably.

Important points for using Shankhs

1.Never offer water to deity with shankha used for blowing.

2.The shankha must be respected and worshipped by all family members if it is kept in your place of worship. Also, the shankha used for blowing must be blown at least twice a day.

3.The shankha used for worshipping purposes must be cleansed with Gangajal and kept on white cloth.

4.The shankha must never be placed near Shiv Pindi or placed above Shivling during any religious ritual.

5.Shankha should be placed in Puja room that should always be in the north, east or northeast directions.

6.Blowing of shankha should be completed in one single breath as it activates Sushumna channel of the individual and it helps in keeping correct balance of Raja and sattva particles.
