Om Namah Shivay! A Mantra for purification of the soul and a path opener for all the spiritualist of the world. The mantra represents the harmony of all the five elements and motivates us to live a better and fulfilled life. When chanted in the auspicious month of Sawan it helps devotees to attain quick enlightenment and liberation of the soul in the end.

The mystic atmosphere, atmosphere filled with religiousness, and the devotees charged with enthusiasm to perform all the ritualistic ceremony for Lord Shiva have the special recognition in the Sawan month. The month is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the time to start any auspicious task where devotees do Shiv puja, wear Rudraksha and even keep fast on Mondays. All this and more is done in this month because the whole universe is filled with Shiva Tattva and when during this month Shiva Mantra is chanted then it becomes easy to appease Him and get His divine blessing.

Mere worship is not significant, worship of the Almighty when done in adherence with the rules and norms prescribed in Sanatan Dharma, generates more divinity. The following should be taken care of by every Shiva devotee:

Abhishek of the Lingam

Recite ‘Om Namah Shivay’ while pouring water, milk on the Lingam with the care that water or milk squirt is not broken. Shiva Abhishek is done with no Turmeric because the substance is used to enhance the beauty and Shiva being a saint is deprived of all the worldly pleasures.

Brinjal- A Vegetable Prohibited

Indian Vedas consider Brinjal or eggplant as impure so it is forbidden to eat it during fast days or in the month of Dwadashi, Chaturdashi, and Kartik. The people following Jainism also consider eating of this vegetable inauspicious. Scientifically also, the vegetable is not advised for eating as it is usually infested with a lot of insects.

Avoid Drinking Milk

We fast, do Shiva Pujan with milk but what we avoid is drinking the liquid in the month of Sawan. Religiously mentioning, when we offer something to the Almighty then how can we consume it our self. Indian religion is associated with science, there is an authenticate and valid reason behind each and every belief. Scientifically, the month of Sawan falls during the time, when, due to changes in weather, all the insects and pest flourish. The cows and buffalos eat them indirectly in their food so the milk produced by them when drank by humans can cause infection.

A Pure Thought

Thoughts have a way of changing our personality. When we think positive, we act positive and when we act positively we are happy. The month dedicated to Lord Shiva is filled with positivity; the cosmic alliance is such that every particle in the universe is linked with spirituality. An evil-free mind, thought towards religiousness and study of religious books strengthens the aura and the devotees of Shiva emit a radiant positivity.

Avoid Insulting Anyone

Words have the power to become a reality. What we speak we should be cautious. It should be a general practise as time is never the same for everyone but this practise should be followed especially in the month of Sawan. Bholenath never insulted anyone, He has an innocent heart, pure thought and He expects His devotees to respect their parents, elders, siblings, women and every human kind.

Be an Early Riser

Waking up in Brahm Muhurat awakens the kundalini, it increases the aura of Agya Chakra. Whatever we do during this time, we receive its benefit multi-fold and when it is done in the favourite month of Shiv Ji then it increases the connection with spirituality as He has the control over all the Chakras and He is the source of endless power.

Purity of Mind

Whatever we consume affects us in some way or another. This fact is to be followed more rigorously during the month of Sawan. If we eat Non-Vegetarian food or drink liquor then we are inviting impurity inside us and an impure mind is not good for worship.

Cleanliness

A neat and clean surrounding is all-time favourite of Lord. It is the best way to offer homage to Lord Shiva. Remove unused items, avoid the cluttering of space, light fragrance stick or dhoop and invite the Lord inside your home.

Brahmacharya

As far as possible the devotees of Lord Shiva should follow the Brahmacharya Vrat to appease Him. The vast emptiness, the eternal and always enigma of Shiva is described beautifully in Shiv Mahapuran. He is the essence of everything; He has the amalgamation of all the qualities and all the struggles. The Shiv Mahapuran is the deep connection of inner consciousness and materialist desires. Reciting of the Holy book in the month of Sawan will please Shiva more.
