Why Namaste or Anjali Mudra is best for greeting?
Yesterday, Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu encouraged his countrymen to adopt ‘Namaste’ instead of shaking hands to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Namaste or Anjali mudra is one of the yoga mudras which is a common means of greeting used in most Asian countries especially India. From the Vedic era only, Indian sages and commoners used Anjali Mudra as a basic gesture. But have you ever thought that why our forefathers have chosen NAMASTE as a main symbol of greeting?
Our ancient seers were knowledgeable and possessed deep knowledge in the scientific field. They were well informed about the fact that handshakes and other gestures can lead to the transfer of communicable diseases such as dangerous viruses. Therefore they adopt a yogic practice which has enormous benefits. Also in Anjali mudra, you place both your hands in front of your heart, you are actually connecting the right brain with the left brain (i.e. connection of your consciousness with subconsciousness). It also helps in reducing stress and anxiety. It also boosts your concentration and awareness levels. Many scientific studies have shown that it also helps in bringing harmony and peace in life.
In reality, all western countries have adopted the culture of handshakes due to which the possibilities of transfer of viruses increase manifold. The most worrisome fact is that Indians have too adopted the same culture nowadays. We have forgotten our Vedic roots in which all customs and rituals were made keeping in view the scientific processes and the ecosystem.
Its really surprising that today west is actually adopting Indian culture and practices whereas we are refraining from it. I think we need to contemplate on the fact that whether we need to go back our roots and adopt our ancient practices for overall welfare of society. Let’s unite and make our India great again.
